We made it to Nicaragua! My group, Nica 61, has arrived! we got here yesterday
afternoon and it has been a huge whirlwind already. On less than 2 hours of
sleep, we had a full day of orientations and dinĂ¡micas, which are like
ice-breakers or games, when we arrived. Everyone in the group is very
interesting, qualified, and unique. I am excited to get to know everyone better
throughout training and beyond.
The food is super tasty! So far we have had meals made for
us at the hotel we are staying at. We have had chicken, various combinations of
rice and beans, coleslaw, potatoes, beets, plantain chips, fried plantains,
eggs, salad, bread, and the most delicious fruit juices I've ever tasted. Our
host families will be cooking for us for the next three months, and taking care
of us in every way, so I’m looking forward to that.
So far the weather has been very pleasant. I am enjoying it
so much more than I expected I would. It’s semi-humid and it’s been in the 90s
during the day and the 70s at night, with strong breezes throughout. I've even
worn jeans and been comfortable during the day. We also currently have an air
conditioned room for training and sessions… so I might be singing a different
song about the weather in the next few weeks.
The PC Nicaragua staff is also great. Everyone I've met so
far has been very knowledgeable, understanding and attentive. They make me even
more excited to get started in training and then service.
Like I said, I’ll be heading to my training community in the
next couple of days. We will have extensive Spanish classes, health and safety
training, and technical community health training. I will likely be able to
have some internet access through training, so keep checking back.
Also, if you would like to get emails when I add a new post,
simply enter your email address in the box at the bottom of this page. Then my
